A Review

Read Time: 1 min read

Rating: 3 out of 5.

This film is based on the real-life ordeal of Aron Ralston, an avid mountain climber whose adventure takes a nightmarish turn—proof that danger can strike at any moment, no matter how experienced you are.

I’ve seen survival movies before, and while this one wasn’t my absolute favorite, it had moments that really stuck with me. There were missed opportunities, though—like delving deeper into his girlfriend’s life and their strained relationship. We get hints that he was distant, even a bit of a jerk, but I wish they’d explored that side of his story more.

Then there’s the whole son subplot. At first, I was confused—did he already have a kid? Was he just reminiscing? Turns out, it was a premonition, and that confusion actually worked in the film’s favor by the end. The lead actor’s performance was incredible, especially when portraying his descent into desperation and near-madness. The only hiccup? His initial reaction to the accident felt a little too casual—just an “ouch” when you’d expect sheer panic or agony. Maybe it was shock, but it stood out.

Beyond that, there’s not much else to say except… you just have to experience it. This movie wrings emotions out of you—first pity, then heartache, and finally, a visceral, almost physical reaction to his suffering. (Seriously, I felt that pain.) By the end, you’re fighting tears.

If you love true stories, extreme survival, or tales of sheer human willpower, give this a watch. Just brace yourself—it gets very graphic.
