Extraterrestrial (2014)

Run Charlie, Run

A Review

Read Time: 2 min read

Rating: 1.5 out of 5.

As you can pretty much guess its a cliche film about aliens.

Unlike many others, this one ends pretty messed up, and slightly funny, in my opinion.

The film is about the abduction of civilians for experimentation. They give a slight explanation behind it, but in reality, you’ll never know the full reason. A pact was made between aliens and humans during the first encounter in Roswell. Since then, the government has allowed the aliens to abduct, experiment, and do whatever they please with people, in exchange for having a falsified “leadership” of planet Earth.

The plot is obvious, and it’s not like they introduced anything new. It’s just another alien film with some moments, but it doesn’t quite make it onto the “Best of 2014” list. They didn’t even bother changing the stereotypical alien design to make it unique. I’m glad they included some emotion in the film, though, as it gave the story more depth instead of just the typical aliens, abduction, and people dying. It made things both sad and hilarious, especially considering all the efforts the characters made to be together in the end. By the time your eyes adjust to the ever present “blue/green” grain filter that’s applied on every shot you’ll already be bored of what may happen next –occasionally shifting in your seat when a “jump scare” occurs.

But in the end, it didn’t really matter.

However, the last scene of the film was beautifully thought out, so props for that.

I’m not sure whether to categorize this film as horror, sci-fi, or comedy, as it blends a bit of all three.

The acting is okay—not the best I’ve seen, but I’m glad they didn’t just use big name actors (although one character does seem to appear in other similar films).

If you like aliens, comedy, futile attempts to save themselves and others, and a climax you might not expect, give this film a watch!

And yes, there’s anal probing.

This dystopian tale weaponizes absence—no color, no music, no love. The concept unsettles more than the execution, with underdeveloped worldbuilding and a baffling ending. Yet the young cast’s raw performances make the awakening to humanity’s stolen beauty worth watching.

A raunchy rom-com that weaponizes bro-code into accidental self-improvement. Efron, Teller, and Jordan stumble from hookups to heartbreak with hilarious cluelessness—until life sucker-punches them with emotional maturity. Proof that even fuckboys can evolve… if you laugh at them hard enough.
