Into The Storm is a beautifully “cinematic” (VFX lets be real) portrayal that showcases the true danger of the “Eye of the Storm.”

Technically speaking, the tornado you see in the ending of this film is impossible. If it were real, it would have ripped the earth out from under the storm shelter, and they all would have died. Actually, to be perfectly accurate, they would have been picked up by the vortex’s suction, which, based on its size, would have had a 5-6 mile radius (if not more) during the time they were driving, and that would have been the end of it.

Now, I have only a few things to say about the actors in this film.

POOR, OVERLOOKED CAMERAMAN (Lucas, played by Lee Whittaker)

This man is almost never spoken to, has maybe 2-3 short phrases (not even full lines), gets no camera attention (his face is literally blurred out during close-ups, focusing on the main characters), helps shoot the film, isn’t even mentioned in the credits, AND he dies.

My heart goes out to his dedication. If they had named the character, given him a role, and included him in shots, they should have AT LEAST acknowledged his existence. I mean, come on, was he any less important than Jacob (played by Jeremy Sumpter—who, by the way, is a great actor)? All Jacob did was whine and sacrifice his life for his job, and he was remembered.

Overall, the film itself was good. The “shots” were breathtaking, and the music made you feel the rush of wind as the tornadoes blew past on the screen. I was very impressed with the amount of CGI (Computer Generated Images) used in this film. I’m sure the money spent was well worth it, as the tornadoes were absolutely horrifying and beautiful at the same time. I say horrifying because the wreckage caused by those tornadoes was no joke—it was pure devastation. Though I’ve never seen one up close. I’ve seen one from a distance, but it doesn’t really count.

It made me stop and think about Hurricane Katrina and many other brutal tornadoes that have claimed countless lives. My heart goes out to all those families, and I want to say, I’m sorry.

If you loved Twister you’re going to LOVE this film. Maybe after you ride the Twister ride (unless they’ve taken it down – sad), you’ll feel a little shiver down your spine.

On a side note, I’m glad to see Nathan Kress (Trey) doing other TV projects besides iCarly or other smaller, less notable films. He did pretty well in this film, considering it’s the first time I’ve seen him out of his usual character. So, props to that.

As for the other teen actors in the film, the ones in “High School” made me LOL—no joke, for that nonsense.

I’m not going to talk about the adult actors because, let’s be real, they were solid.

Both Max and Alycia did spectacular jobs as well. I’ve seen Max in other films, so I already know his “way of acting,” and he played the role of a shy guy caught in a web of “I hate my dad,” guilty blame games, and eventual resolution pretty well. Alycia Debnam Carey, who I hadn’t seen before, did a pretty good job too. There could have been a bit more romance in the film since they introduced these two as potentially “together” (though we never really know because, in the end, she’s nowhere to be seen), but that wasn’t what the film was about, so I’m not complaining.

Into The Storm was great.

But was it better than Twister?

I can’t say yes, because although Twister is older, it still has its fantastic moments—just like this film.
