Predestination (2014)

"I'll Do it Myself"

A Review

Read Time: 3 min read

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

A whole new meaning to the phrase, “do it yourself.”

This movie will absolutely wreck your brain — in the best way possible.

We open with a mysterious figure descending into a basement, briefcase in hand, trying to disarm a bomb. Before anything makes sense, shots fire, shadows move, and the briefcase turns out to be more than just your average luggage — it’s a damn time machine.

The bomb explodes, the man’s face gets melted off (don’t worry, he’ll be fine… kinda) and someone else appears from the shadows to push the briefcase back to him.

What the hell is going on?

Welcome to Predestination.

So let’s recap:

CharacterAlso Is…
JaneJohn (after surgery)
JohnThe Mysterious Lover
JohnThe Time Agent (Ethan Hawke)
The Time AgentThe Fizzle Bomber
The BabyJane (Restart the cycle)

Every major character in this movie is the same person.
Jane → John → Ethan → Fizzle Bomber → Jane again.

Final Breakdown for anyone who still doesn’t get it.

“How to Be Your Own Worst Enemy, Lover, Parent, and Child — in 7 Easy Steps”

[Baby Jane]

Abandoned at Orphanage

Grows up, falls in love with…

[John] ← (Same person, but older and now with… uh, extra parts)

They get themselves pregnant

[Baby Jane] (Yes, the same baby from the start — full circle)

Sex Change Surgery → Officially becomes John

Time Travel Recruit → Becomes the Agent

Agent hunts the Fizzle Bomber

Kills the Fizzle Bomber…

Only to realize… he IS the Fizzle Bomber

Loses his mind → Starts bombing stuff → Gets hunted by himself

And the cycle repeats… forever.

Final Thoughts:

If you’re into movies that take 10 minutes to explain, 20 minutes to process, and another two hours of Googling to fully understand — Predestination is your next watch.

Mortal Kombat (2021)

MK2021 is a joyless, half-baked punch-up—all setup, no payoff. The fights are chopped into confetti, the plot is lore sludge, and the gore is shockingly tame. Even nostalgia can’t save this from feeling like a bad fan film.

This film is a cringeworthy blend of clichés, terrible dialogue, and unlikable characters. With every trope imaginable, it’s more parody than story. The soundtrack is unbearable, and the “E-5” tornado finishes off any remaining credibility.
